Techniques: WebQuests
The concept of a WebQuest was developed by Bernie Dodge and colleagues at San Diego State University in 1995 and was intended for use in schools. However, teachers have since developed WebQuests for students at all levels.
The key attributes of a WebQuest are:
- An introduction
- The WebQuest task. This must be achievable and engage students.
- A set of the online resources needed to complete the task.
- A step-by-step guide to carrying out the task.
- Guidance on how students should organise the information which they retrieve.
- A conclusion to "wrap up" the task.
Adapted from Dodge (1997).
WebQuests are well suited to group project work in a constructivist learning environment. See the Useful WebQuest Resources page of the WebQuest site for background information and advice.
